Debashish Chakravarty Tapped as VOANS Vice President of Real Estate Development

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 19, 2024 – Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) welcomes Debashish Chakravarty as the vice president of real estate development, effective Dec. 16. Chakravarty joins VOANS with more than 15 years of real estate development, project management and real estate finance experience gained while working in the county government, housing authority and nonprofit sectors.

As the vice president of real estate development, Chakravarty will be responsible for leading the organization’s real estate development, acquisition and/or recapitalization of affordable housing projects and other real estate initiatives across the nation with the goal of increasing VOANS impact in the affordable housing industry.

In his previous role as associate director of real estate finance with Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development in Virginia, Chakravarty and his team completed closings on nearly 800 affordable housing units worth more than $4 million. He also successfully obtained bond issuance approval for several 4% low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) deals and completed closings on over $130 million in construction financing and more than $286 million in bond financing.

Chakravarty has a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School; a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Studies from Case Western Reserve University. He is also a recipient of the 2021 Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority Conrad Egan Award for Excellence in Achievement.
